Cyclocomputer Recommendations?
Question by Ronnie: Cyclocomputer Recommendations?
I need to pick up an advanced cyclocomputer for road riding / training. I’ve been using a basic CatEye Mity, but need to upgrade to something that track heart rate, cadence as well as the basics.
Can anybody recommend a product?
I’m looking at the Polar CS200 CAD as the leading option.
Thanks in advance.

I have been using a Garman GPS unit that has been more than awsome! It is downloadable with cadence and altimeter specs, also heart rate specs. I highly recommend it if you are a serious cycle nut. Check out REI.com. Cycle on.

I used the Polar CS200 for a couple of months on my Mtn bike. I had major issues with getting accurate speed readings because the Unit must be mounted within 18″ of the tire sensor. I physically couldn’t get it within 18″. Then one of the mounting brackets on the unit broke on a bumpy downhill, which would have been too expensive to fix so I stopped using it.
However, the unit is designed for road riding so you probaby wouldn’t run into the issues I had.
The functionality was awesome. It had heart rate, calories, and would store multiple rides. There is a computer interface that allows you to upload your stats to a web site. The chest heart rate band was extremely comfortable.
A number of riders I know have Garmin 305’s, which are GPS devices that actually track where you have ridden. They tend to be about $ 325.
The Polar CS200 cad is the cyclometer I use. I’ve owned it for over a year now and I’ve had absolutely no problems with it. It is really easy to set up and use. I have heard from other reviewers that the HRM can fluctuate drastically with other monitor interference or high tension wires… but I have not found this the case at all.
Would definitely recommend it.
